I had a blue and grey smokey eye in mind, but my conscience always says GO FOR THE BRIGHT COLOR so boom.<br />

<br />
While I was doing this makeup, I had to do a double-take because there was a beauty mark on my forehead that I never noticed. Turns out I just somehow hurt myself because it's fading now, haha.<br />
<br />

<br />
Trademark stoic face. I realize that my close-up pictures are a lot more saturated - sorry! It's the lighting situation haha, I don't have any studio lights so I have to make do with natural light. I'm considering studio lights in the future. It'll be nice to have, but not something I absolutely need so I'm holding off on it for now.<br />

I love false lashes. I've been playing around with them a LOT and I'm happy to say I can now apply them with ease! I still have a little trouble with the band being really prominent, though a user on Reddit suggested that I should put a little bit of black eyeliner on top so it can blend in. Also note to self, don't touch up eyeshadow after you've put on lashes cause the fallout will make the band super noticeable.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-39303705311051135542015-03-08T23:10:00.000-04:002015-03-08T23:10:24.485-04:00metropolitan museum of art | egyptian exhibit<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for an assignment for one of my art history classes. We had a few exhibits to choose from and I picked the Egyptian one. I don't know what it is about ancient Egyptian art, but I love everything about it and it's my favorite part of ancient western art.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-npE9ecZK_7A/VP0H_tRCpFI/AAAAAAAAB5I/dnFUNlhjstM/s1600/met%2Begyptian%2Bexhibit%2B7.jpg" /><br />

<br />
These were my favorites.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1oEFekqSZrA/VP0H_48RR8I/AAAAAAAAB5Q/DSqTJweg4ns/s1600/met%2Begyptian%2Bexhibit%2B8.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I picked this piece for my assignment and took a ton of photos cause there's no way I'm gonna stand there and draw this thing from different angles. Some guy came up to me while I was taking photos of it and we started talking and walking around. I could tell he was somewhat into me (bumped shoulders, put his hand at the small of my back for brief moments) but at the same time I wasn't sure if that was the way he just acted and I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE RIGHT TIME IS TO TELL SOMEONE I HAVE A BOYFRIEND. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5DyFpXmRis">Relatable video here</a>. We ended up exchanging numbers and the next day he asks how my day was and I said I went shopping. Then he said "buy anything sexy?" and I flipped my shit saying that it's totally inappropriate and uncomfortable for me since we only met the day before. So proud of me for standing up for myself, because usually I wouldn't reply and I'd ignore them forever.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A lot of their pieces are so tiny. We went over cylinder seals (second picture) in class, and I always thought they were at least the size of a water bottle - nope! They're even smaller than from knuckle to knuckle on my fingers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's really interesting to me that they covered this statue in another stone, but a lot of the parts got worn away.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some other miscellaneous things. I fell on my back kind of recently and it hurt to carry my camera, so I didn't go to see any other exhibits. Which is kind of a good thing, because that means I can go back another day. Honestly I'd say you would probably need two days to fully explore the museum. I was only in the Egyptian exhibit and that took a good 2 or 3 hours!</div>

Sorry this post is up a little late! I was too busy baking cookies and watching Arthur (yes, I still watch Arthur!) before having to inevitably take an exam online for one of my classes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AdqYP_VkeTg/VPhqTQh_sfI/AAAAAAAAB28/39XOixYmXa0/s1600/pisces%2Bmakeup.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
Fun fact: My hair was sooooo gross when I took these pictures, but I like the natural wave thing that's going on. Dry shampoo for the win. I'm curious, how many days do you guys usually go in between washes? You probably don't want to know how many days I go before washing that greasy mop I call hair.<br />
<br />
Anyway, today is Pisces, the fish! I honestly didn't know what I wanted to do for Pisces. It's symbolized by fish so I knew I wanted some blues and turquoises in there, but I didn't want to create another version of Aquarius. So I played around with some orange and yellow, since the first fish that came to my mind were goldfish. It was also a good excuse to use some of my new Sugarpill goodies I got from their birthday sale!<br />

I'm pretty excited to do Aries, which is the next one. Partly because I want to play with Love+, the gooooorgeous red shade in the <a href="http://www.sugarpillshop.com/products/burning-heart-palette">Burning Heart Palette</a>, and partly because it's James' sign. <br />
Like last month, I only have three favorites! Which is a good thing, because it means I'm not spending a lot of money on new makeup. I'm strangely satisfied with the amount I have at the moment and I don't feel the want or need to buy more like I used to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="february favorites - too faced chocolate bar palette, urban decay electric palette" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pueeKUQpZN4/VPO_MlSCgFI/AAAAAAAAB2c/scc-d_gVFyo/s1600/too%2Bfaced%2Bchocolate%2Bbar%2Bpalette%2C%2Burban%2Bdecay%2Belectric%2Bpalette.jpg" title="too faced chocolate bar palette + urban decay electric palette" /></div>
<br />
When I first started "beauty blogging," I felt like I had to have the newest makeup to show that I'm up to date with the latest products. But now it's more like I'd rather show what I can do with makeup rather than reviewing makeup. I'm the kind of person who likes to do really thorough reviews, and sometimes it makes me feel frustrated when I can't write out what I'm thinking! I think I'd go nuts if I was constantly churning out reviews for this blog.<br />
<br />

<br />
Anyway, I've gotten off to a bit of a tangent. I <i>*gasp*</i> have a video to share my February favorites! I can't say enough of how awkward it is, but I think I'll ease into it with time.<br />

It feels pretty weird to me that I only posted once last week. I was hoping to have a post up on Friday but my schedule just wasn't having it - though I know I could have probably done it with better time management! Luckily the days are getting longer, so there will be more sunlight for me to take pictures :)Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-91219259287173221832015-02-25T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-25T08:00:11.638-05:00chinese new year<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Happy Chinese New Year! Even though it's a few days late, but better late than never eh? I know technically it's called the Lunar New Year and not Chinese New Year - but it's what I grew up with and celebrate since different cultures have different traditions, even though we're celebrating the same occasion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="chinese new year flowers" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GzXdQSfIfbw/VO1Fp-l2v-I/AAAAAAAAB1Y/1xFbVH9XX4w/s1600/chinese%2Bnew%2Byear%2Bflower%2Bdecorations.jpg" title="chinese new year flowers" /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Fresh flowers are a must, according to my mom anyway. If the weather outside wasn't inhospitable, she'd probably cut her own freshly grown flowers from the front yard!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="chinese new year decorations" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuITYTvEp9CM5oeUelTVJ-qPnMB8voMsmJsaPIPvDiZn3vreUm8DpJ07w5enOVSwBY73eL9LFla5rlEgAptag4pZDMVcZawGWgkGWnT9YQjF-pQSxBrzGqGqJaQUwb8UUwksN4vZpf8yo/s1600/chinese+new+year+decorations.jpg" title="chinese new year decorations" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="chinese new year candy box" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sV6ei1ILico/VO1FrLPFBcI/AAAAAAAAB10/oTDcqcrIFoM/s1600/chinese%2Bnew%2Byear%2Bsweets%2Bbowl.jpg" title="chinese new year candy box - if you're a long time reader you'll remember a very similar picture :P" /></div>
<br />
Red and gold decorations also go up, though some of these are displayed year-round.<br />
<br />
<img alt="chinese new year orchid" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WKnebFH26k0/VO1FquCTMFI/AAAAAAAAB2E/YcyJjQbEDJo/s1600/chinese%2Bnew%2Byear%2Borchid.jpg" title="orchid??" /><br />
<br />
Mom has this orchid (I think it's an orchid) that always blooms around this time of year. I never noticed that before until one of my relatives pointed it out: "Big sister's plant is always the prettiest around the new year." She technically isn't my mom's sister, but rather my mom's brother's wife, and honestly one of the sweetest people I know.<br />
<br />
<img alt="chinese tea set" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tC21Wnun3cI/VO1FrDxoy-I/AAAAAAAAB14/2KnPadsLbv8/s1600/chinese%2Btea%2Bset.jpg" title="chinese tea set" /><br />
<br />
It's also the time of year where mom busts out all her fancy teacups and dinnerware.<br />
<br />
<img alt="red envelopes" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sAfcaN3RPII/VO1Fqu8p_jI/AAAAAAAAB1o/MEgNWSuDOOY/s1600/chinese%2Bnew%2Byear%2Bred%2Benvelopes%2Bhong%2Bbao.jpg" title="red envelopes!" /><br />
<br />
And probably the most exciting thing for the unmarried kids: money given out in red envelopes! My relatives keep on telling me to get married but I'm only 22, which is too young for me personally. They also keep on nudging me to bring James here so they can meet him :P<br />

Hey guys! I apologize for the severe lack in posts for the past couple of days. I like posting 3-4 times a week/every other day but recently I found that it's tough to balance school, work, and a blog so I'll have to whittle it down to 2-3 posts a week instead. I haven't found time to reciprocate to all your kind and sweet comments either - it feels really overwhelming to have a backlog of comments to respond to and blogs to check out (I feel like it's my personal duty to reply/comment back on your blogs). But I'll get to that soon!<br />

<br />
In the other random parts of life: I got a new planner! I know I got<a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2014/09/wheresoever-you-go-go-with-all-your.html"> my other one</a> less than half a year ago, but I felt like it was time for some change. Maybe half a year later, I'll get tired of this one and go back to the old one :P It tells a story of a cat and mouse with their travels in Spain throughout the pages. I'm getting some major inspiration from Angela at <a href="http://www.paperlovestory.com/">Paper Love Story</a>, even though my pages look like a hot mess compared to hers. I really like writing down what I have to get done for the day so I gauge how far along I'm getting in my daily to-do's. Whether I actually get stuff done though, is a whole other story...<br />

<img alt="lush haul" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GdTBBii_2_Y/VOjoanqjcqI/AAAAAAAAB0A/voIj_0IyftE/s1600/ridiculous%2Blush%2Bhaul.jpg" title="ridiculous lush haul" /><br />
<br />
I went into Lush planning to get just <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Love-Locket/05066,en_US,pd.html">Love Locket</a> and <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/No-Drought/03589,en_US,pd.html">No Drought </a>and... I ended walking out with a lot more. I think that's the curse of walking into Lush: plan on buying two things, end up with ten more than you expected. I did give <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Tisty-Tosty/00013,en_US,pd.html">Tisty Tosty</a> to one of my girlfriends as a cute Valentine's gift though. Her name is Ciara and we've been friends since elementary school, can you believe that?! We always saw each other in middle school, high school, and at our old college but we never really hung out or talked because we always had something to do or somewhere to go. She's in one of my classes this semester and it's pretty awesome getting to know her again. We still talk like we haven't been separated, though!<br />

<br />
To say that I am currently obsessed with tea is an understatement. A few days after this order from David's Tea came in I went to Target with Pramod. I picked up another tin of tea and he gave me a look and said "You just spent $50 on tea!" I justified it with saying that I didn't get any green tea.<br />

It's been soooo cold for the past few weeks. It's snowing pretty much every other day/two days and it's insane. I don't even remember the last time New York got so much snow. Sometimes it physically hurts to go outside because it's so bitterly cold and windy. James keeps obnoxiously reminding me that it's so beautiful and sunny every day in California, there usually isn't even a cloud in the sky.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-60521912820805210702015-02-17T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-17T08:00:00.711-05:00what's in my makeup bag | charlotte tilbury makeup bag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Soooo <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/beautylish-haul-charlotte-tilbury.html">recently I purchased Charlotte Tilbury's makeup bag</a>, and it's replaced the bag that I took from my sister (without her knowledge of course).<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>From the varying lipstick prints to the metallic details, I like this bag a lot! It's made of canvas so it's a nice weight, doesn't feel cheap at all which was one of my main concerns. Even the zipper is fancy and has a very nice, er, pull to it? It's very roomy as well, and I love that it can fit my full-size hand cream with room to spare.<br />
<br />
The only quibble I have about it is that the print ends abruptly at the bottom of the bag. I would have preferred if they removed the ones that got cut off, or finished the entire lip. Heck even get just the top lip if anything. The quote on the back is pretty cute, though men can wear makeup and feel the same way too! Overall if you're debating on whether to get it or not, I would push you into the direction of getting it ;)<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzylly-SvDepMV0YHCIWi5qGdyMlrRYZ4ysuqJzBWvAjGvpZyrnFlOcxSOAFsi2jlGpZWigeANVsbnNY7Hstk6pYYpXWmDyLVaHB4YGvEg1kJCLBpOblSwagY0ZFRsbF_7Z5TpIa6NndQ/s1600/star+violet+what's%2Bin%2Bmy%2Bmakeup%2Bbag.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
Now, onto the contents...<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hNefdlpbCSU/VNgC9vZ4bAI/AAAAAAAABwc/W6dO2h9rjW8/s1600/jack%2Bblack%2Blip%2Bbalm%2C%2Bnyx%2Bbutter%2Bgloss%2C%2Burban%2Bdecay%2Bnaked2%2Blipstick.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
Lots of lip stuff. Or at least a lot to me, because I only got into lip colors recently. I have a <a href="http://www.sephora.com/intense-therapy-lip-balm-spf-25-P12573?skuId=564344">Jack Black lip balm</a> and even though it's not my favorite, I like it because it offers SPF. <a href="http://www.sephora.com/revolution-lipstick-P381305?skuId=1531912">Urban Decay Naked2</a> is my current favorite lipstick, and it's a light, brownish nude that'll go with any makeup look I have on.<a href="http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2254804&productId=xlsImpprod5050009&categoryId=cat80060"> NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee</a> is a nice alternative to lipstick when I can't be bothered to be fussy about application or have flaky lips.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IutltjSb_jA/VNgC9p3bvtI/AAAAAAAABwk/UICMsncQpZ8/s1600/soap%2Band%2Bglory%2Bhand%2Bfood%2C%2Bfresh%2Blife%2Bperfume.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
My full size <a href="http://www.sephora.com/hand-food-hand-cream-P294731?skuId=1368711">Hand Food</a> can fit in here with more than enough wiggle room. I like my bag to be organized (even though it's far from that, ha) and it bothers me when my hand cream is floating around somewhere and I can't find it. I have a deluxe sample of <a href="http://www.sephora.com/fresh-life-P384792?skuId=1573187">Fresh Life</a> perfume in here for whenever I need a little pick-me-up - I love how it smells, and I'm considering on getting the full size.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mQMSGNaNPJo/VNgC89EjLtI/AAAAAAAABwI/g9G-0ASEI6w/s1600/boscia%2Bblotting%2Blinens.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
Finally, the miscellaneous things. I have a pack of <a href="http://www.sephora.com/black-charcoal-blotting-linens-P387006?skuId=1608744">Boscia blotting linens</a> and even though my face is far from oily, I liked using them in the summer. I'd rather blot away the shine than to pile more powder on top. It's not summer but I have them with me "just in case I decide to go to the gym one day," which is still waiting to happen. There's a small pot of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizing-Cream-16-Ounce/dp/B001V9SXXU">CeraVe in the tub</a>... In Ole Henriksen packaging. Friends have asked me if I have moisturizer because they didn't have time to slap some on before leaving, so I'd like to be that lifesaver ;) I also have napkins from who knows where, and a Kate Spade notecard from a gift that Vennesa gave to Xiao Wei. I asked if I could have it because it looks fancy and she said yes, but I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with it.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-67808240861219828842015-02-15T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-15T08:00:05.608-05:00neon ♥ love<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
A day too late to label this as a Valentine's Day makeup look, but I doubt anyone would actually wear this out for Valentine's Day. Lately I've been super inspired by some of the crazy makeup that <a href="http://addictedtopretty.com/">Sugarpill </a>features, and <a href="http://instagram.com/dominiqueldr/">Dominique's work</a> as well. When I finished my eye makeup, the colors reminded me of those bright neon signs and they're kinda romantic? I can't get over how stoic I look in these pictures, though. I swear I try to smile, but I end up looking like a doofus so I don't.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="urban decay electric palette makeup" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cl3ry8D59zw/VN_XmO_xuPI/AAAAAAAABzI/u5RZ9qHDyCQ/s1600/urban%2Bdecay%2Belectric%2Bpalette.jpg" title="look to the right" /></div>
<br />
I have a piece of egg at the corner of my mouth. I ate before taking pictures and didn't realize... and it also shows that I rarely wipe my mouth clean after eating LOL. I was contemplating on cropping it out but I decided hey, this kind of stuff happens to everyone so there's no use in trying to appear as perfect as possible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="urban decay electric palette" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6o-KrOEZnF0/VN_Xljl6e6I/AAAAAAAABy8/0FPF8iTFlLI/s1600/urban%2Bdecay%2Belectric%2Bpalette%2Bmakeup.jpg" title="close ups" /></div>
<br />
This would've looked so badass with some false lashes instead of my measly lil stubs. I'll have to play around a little more to get used to applying them/not risking them falling off mid-day. If I were to do this look again, I would blend the pink and blue shades to get a blended purple over the center of the lid so it wouldn't resemble the American flag as much.<br />

I'd also like to take this time to thank you guys for all the sweet comments on all the makeup-on-my-face posts. I actually used to be super conscious about putting my face on the internet - even on Facebook, where I pretty much everyone knows how I look like! I'm curious, do or did you guys personally have any feelings like that?Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-82950261078497516182015-02-13T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-13T09:19:34.396-05:00red velvet oreo truffles<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="oreo truffles for valentine's day" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Qf3wiN_RKY/VN2EGgvV6yI/AAAAAAAAByQ/EjBNd7HHgXg/s1600/oreo%2Btruffles.jpg" title="<3" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Aka the easiest and tastiest truffles you will ever make. They're also great because you can decorate them to suit whatever occasion you're making them for, not just Valentine's Day. Fun fact: I don't like white chocolate. But I do like salt with dark chocolate!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't have an exact recipe for this since 1) I ate some of the Oreos before and during making this and 2) I didn't keep count of how many I ate. I referenced to <a href="http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/easy-oreo-truffles-95085.aspx">this</a> recipe though I do believe I used around half the amount of cream cheese they did. If it helps, it was half an 8-ounce package of cream cheese with a little less than a package of the red velvet Oreos. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="oreo truffles" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qgrD0LTTW7k/VN2EGfcYBSI/AAAAAAAAByU/LBJK-R_ZUuM/s1600/oreo%2Btruffle%2Brecipe.jpg" title="oreo truffles" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To make up for my uselessness in providing actual adapted instructions, here are some tips that might help:</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>The Oreos don't have to be super crushed if you don't have a food processor - as long as pieces of it don't stick out too much when you're rolling them into balls, it'll still work fine.</li>
<li>I scooped a little less than a tablespoon with a tablespoon to make the balls more uniform in size.</li>
<li>Letting the Oreo and cream cheese mixture sit over a night or two will make the texture softer.</li>
<li>If your chocolate has trouble melting into a dippable consistency, try putting a little bit of oil to thin it out. I used coconut oil, but I think any vegetable oil will work.
</li>
<li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1_1XJiSCH8">Here's an alternative</a> to dipping truffles if using forks is too messy for you.</li>
<li>Edited to add: Soak everything in hot water for 5-10 minutes for east cleanup!</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<img alt="red velvet oreo truffles" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit2L96xXla3se5aaL4aDgdiqqjt-cQmnjBiAIWHIXlsOInCLgw9KScx07fNfn-8rfj92huiwsKX6FgjYb8sET_ObPP5E428jaVrVU9ovjJZluIc6ZnP_Kxz6nha6VnK_QrtHaujGZtln0/s1600/red+velvet+oreo+truffles.jpg" title="red velvet oreo truffles" /><br />

Apparently red velvet Oreos are all the rage right now, according to my Facebook friends.</div>

My first attempt at a gift guide, though most of these are oriented towards a girlfriend or yourself. Mostly yourself. Kind of a wishlist, kind of not because I already own a few of these things. It's really just a collection of stuff I came across and thought "I like this and it fits a Valentine's Day theme" and bam, gift guide slash wishlist.<br />
<br />
I'm terrible at picking out gifts for the conventional man. Except for chocolate. If your man (or woman) doesn't have an appreciation for theses types of gifts, maybe you can buy it for them in hopes that they'll never touch it so you can have an excuse to use or ingest it for them.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-28238023423040516882015-02-09T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-09T08:00:09.800-05:00origins clear improvement active charcoal mask<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
Quite a few of you guys noted that you'd be interested in a more in-depth review for this mask, so here we are. I wanted to get some more use out of this before I wrote my review for a more well-rounded opinion (I thought this was too good to be true!), but it's stayed the same since day one :)<br />
<br />
I'm usually not a fan of Origins skincare - I've only tried their <a href="http://www.sephora.com/modern-friction-nature-s-gentle-dermabrasion-P297513?skuId=1375658">microdermabrasion </a>and <a href="http://www.sephora.com/ginzing-tm-energy-boosting-moisturizer-P378852?skuId=1521327">GinZing moisturizer </a>and they irritated the heck out of my skin and broke me out, respectively. But since my sister had this when she visited in December and I desperately needed a clay mask, so I gave it a try.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="origins clear improvement active charcoal mask before and after" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oU3rGotTxWI/VNgKYedDSzI/AAAAAAAABxk/n5N-jQMm1eI/s1600/origins%2Bactive%2Bcharcoal%2Bmask%2Breview.jpg" title="origins clear improvement active charcoal mask" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Freshly applied, and about ten minutes later. The area I put the mask on instantly became smoother and softer after I washed it off. I didn't notice it at first, because I usually jump in the shower to wash it off and go straight into my facial cleanser.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The results: I love this! It's the first mask I've tried that doesn't irritate my skin, which is the <i>pickiest </i>when it comes to face masks. I've tried some well-loved masks, from <a href="http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/queen-helene-masque-mint-julep/ID=prod7481-product">Queen Helene's mint julep mask</a> to <a href="http://www.sephora.com/glycol-lactic-radiance-renewal-mask-P203616?skuId=1064187">Ren's glycol lactic radiance renewal mask</a> to the<a href="http://www.sephora.com/greek-yoghurt-advanced-nourishing-sleeping-facial-P379063?skuId=1522606"> Korres greek yogurt sleeping facial</a>, and even <a href="http://www.sephora.com/thirstymud-tm-hydrating-treatment-P384782?skuId=1582725">Glamglow Thirstymud</a>, they all gave my skin a burning feeling. Not this one, though!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use it mostly for spot treating. If a pimple starts peeking out, I'll put some on it as soon as possible. I also use it for the area where the bottom sides of my nose meets my face because it gets clogged up pretty easily and starts feeling tender to the touch. The results aren't instantaneous, but there's a major difference by next morning, if it hasn't disappeared by then. I rarely do my entire face, but when I do I notice it looks brighter. This mask is definitely a keeper.</div>

So first is Aquarius, the water bearer. When I think of Aquarius I think of different shades of blues and bluish-greens because water. I also think of light gold and white for the vessel that carries the water, so I played around those colors for this look.<br />
<br />
I was planning on putting this up on Youtube but it's actually A LOT HARDER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I'm quite shy and awkward when I'm talking to my camera so maybe I'll try dabbling in that some other time. Sorry, yo!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Love-Locket/05066,en_US,pd.html">lush love locket bath bomb - purchased at lush</a></div>
<br />
Metaphorically, breaking hearts is a bad thing, but literally breaking this one is good ;) You can break this huge bath bomb in half, and inside is a smaller heart - making this useable for three baths, or so Lush says. Love Locket is scented with vanilla, jasmine, and neroli essential oils and even though I generally don't like anything vanilla scented, Lush knows what they're doing.<br />
<br />
<img alt="lush love locket bath bomb" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HJE6uF7zT8Y/VM6ovimBYFI/AAAAAAAABvU/9fDqnqXaD-E/s1600/lush%2Blove%2Blocket%2Breview.jpg" title="breakin' hearts" /><br />
<br />
I took a kitchen knife, stabbed it in (carefully!), wiggled it a bit, and took it out to poke it in another place until I could break it apart. Word of advice: definitely have some old papers around because the mess will be inevitable.<br />
<br />
<img alt="lush love locket bath bomb" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qyC-sI1r4Ck/VM6n5OpeFjI/AAAAAAAABu0/f1oPD32zY90/s1600/lush%2Blove%2Blocket%2Bbath%2Bbomb.jpg" title="ffssszzzz what kind of noise does fizzing make" /><br />

<br />
Dropping one of the halves in - how pretty! It fizzed away much quickly than Northern Lights or Sparkler did, though those were designed for a better show. The outer halves are embedded with light pink paper hearts, which slowly dropped to the bottom of the tub. I was surprised at how moisturizing this one was! I didn't even feel the need to reach for my body butter once I stepped out of the bath, though I did have to slather some on my feet a while afterwards. But whatevs, my feet always need the extra attention anyway.<br />
<br />
I had the luxury of taking TWO baths over the weekend for this post, and can I just say it's sooooo relaxing. Also, it seems like turning on my very orangey bathroom light makes the lighting better post-processing? Anyway, back on topic...<br />
<br />
<img alt="lush love locket bath bomb review" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ar_VP-R63M4/VM6owHtHaDI/AAAAAAAABvc/DFnbo4NBIko/s1600/love%2Blocket%2Bbath%2Bbomb%2Breview.jpg" title="center of the heart" /><br />
<br />
The middle part of the bath bomb. I thought maybe the inside would be jam packed with oils and fragrance since it's so tiny compared to all the other bath bombs Lush had to offer, but that wasn't the case. The middle piece is definitely not enough for a bath, so I'd suggest using it with another bath bomb or melt (even though I haven't tried those yet haha). Or maybe as a foot soak. I just chucked the other half in.<br />
<br />

The hearts from the middle are darker than the outer halves, and those float. They're made of the same squishy material the stars from <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/review-lush-northern-lights-bath-bomb.html">Northern Lights</a> were made of.<br />

Lush says you can use the entire thing at once for the most luxurious soak imaginable, but I found that just half of it was more than enough :) I'd purchase it again, for sure - in fact, I think I might need to stock up on these before they sell out!Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-24083081668226757072015-02-03T08:00:00.000-05:002015-02-03T08:00:06.428-05:00january favorites<img alt="origins active charcoal mask, fresh sugar lip serum advanced therapy, urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ptX8SCWI3aE/VMxEiE6AJQI/AAAAAAAABuE/by2rU8B9V98/s1600/origins%2Bcharcoal%2Bmask%2C%2Burban%2Bdecay%2Brevolution%2Blipstick%2Bnaked2%2C%2Bfresh%2Blip%2Bserum.jpg" title="january favorites - origins active charcoal mask, fresh sugar lip serum advanced therapy, urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2" /><br />
<br />
Three favorite products from last month. It's not a lot, but I'm keepin' it real here ok?<br />
<div>
<br />
I'll start with the one that isn't mine, which is the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/sugar-lip-serum-advanced-therapy-P387647?skuId=1627744">Fresh Sugar lip serum</a>. My mom bought it sometime in December, and I've been using it since day one. We agree that it's not particularly useful alone (because it is a serum after all), so we layer it under our favorite lip balms - mine being the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/lip-butter-P199109?keyword=korres%20lip%20butter&skuId=1183664&_requestid=147073">Korres lip butter in Jasmine</a> and hers being <a href="http://www.shiseido.com/the-skincare-protective-lip-conditioner/0730852530324,en_US,pd.html&cgid=skincare-eye-lip&">Shiseido's protective lip conditioner</a>. I pat it on my lips at night, coat it with lip balm when it sinks in, and when I wake up the next morning my lips are feeling super soft, hydrated, and nourished. The woman has expensive taste, I tell you... but I'll return the favor by repurchasing that serum when it runs out.<br />
<br />
Next up is the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/clear-improvement-active-charcoal-mask-to-clear-pores-P297524">Origins active charcoal mask</a>, which was introduced to me by my sister. Normally I wouldn't willingly buy anything from Origins because the few products that I've previously tried from them either broke me out or irritated my skin/eyes, badly. This one is the gentlest face mask I've ever tried. It doesn't sting, doesn't tingle, and most importantly doesn't burn, which unfortunately a lot of face masks tend to do to me. If I feel a pimple about to surface or my skin feels clogged, I slap some of this on the area and by next morning it's as if nothing was even there in the first place.<br />
<br />
<img alt="urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicbnWaBocV-FkWabIQiIOCt1LlZd0r4OA5toooW3BWAK_j6KUAdBxAxi9CO_mS-h5PHohwOjHWfVywziWCfU8Z5hEPeMyCngSPeN13aY4Az_GOYfdrMu30iHQMgmoKeroB3RLUKHJfoOs/s1600/urban+decay+naked2+lipstick.jpg" title="urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2" /><br />
<br />
Last one is a lipstick I picked up while returning something in Sephora. Not because I actually wanted it, but I feel bad whenever I return something so I feel the need to buy something to make up for it. Plus I'm getting some money back in return too, so it's <i>kind</i> of like hitting two birds with one stone. Except not really.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2 swatch" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lSe0kWLiNhc/VMxERuhxPsI/AAAAAAAABt0/Won4d8ChQfM/s1600/urban%2Bdecay%2Brevolution%2Blipstick%2Bnaked2.jpg" title="urban decay revolution lipstick in naked2, swatched" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's an <a href="http://www.sephora.com/revolution-lipstick-P381305?skuId=1531912">Urban Decay lipstick in Naked 2</a>, and surprisingly it's just what I was looking for. It's lighter than my lip color without being too light, but it's a little brownish as well so it leans more towards nude without making me look <strike>dead</strike> washed out. The formula is really nice as well - not as much slip as the YSL lipsticks but still quite hydrating. I wish they had more colors that I'd be into, but I guess it's a good thing they don't cause I'd be all over those.</div>

<img alt="lush valentine's day collection - love locket, sex bomb, prince charming, and cupid's love. rose jam from their christmas collection." border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLzjsFH17b69juJtqxue4IFqZSExIw7kgToh4yN1pSu0OCx8xdTfWZYdW5TPQ1vUjT7oBycI-h7ftnEB3DDOdJAsPgQtzFC5E4MRkGvsWt0ez2EFyUCfhMUZPdzSr-EMhecr_6Mli65m8/s1600/lush+valentine's%2Bhaul%2B-%2Bprince%2Bcharming%2C%2Blove%2Blocket%2C%2Bsex%2Bbomb%2C%2Bcupid's%2Blove%2C%2Brose%2Bjam.jpg" title="lush valentine's day haul" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
First off, can I just say that Lush has its vanilla game DOWN. Never in my life have I liked anything remotely vanilla scented - it's so sickeningly sweet to me, even in small amounts. I walked into Lush not thinking I'd get any of the vanilla-y things in there but hot damn even the vanilla-boasting <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Butterball/00012,en_US,pd.html">Butterball</a> smells divine.<br />
<br />
So pretty much the only thing I planned to get in there was <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Unicorn-Horn/05074,en_US,pd.html">Unicorn Horn</a>, and one of their soaps - I didn't know which one yet, since there's so many of them! Aaaaand I walked out with many more things than that, minus the Unicorn Horn which makes me feel slightly better about myself.<br />
<br />
<img alt="lush love locket bath bomb, lush sex bomb bath bomb" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wVxDWlcSg1w/VMQQx3piHDI/AAAAAAAABrA/KNAaAJgiSls/s1600/lush%2Blove%2Blocket%2C%2Bsex%2Bbomb.jpg" title="love locket and sex bomb bath bombs" /><br />
<br />
First up, the bath bombs! I've only tried two so far - <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/review-lush-sparkler-bath-bomb.html">Sparkler</a> and <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/review-lush-northern-lights-bath-bomb.html">Northern Lights</a>, which were part of their Halloween collection but were extended to the Christmas collection (I think). While they weren't as moisturizing as I would have hoped, they still make for a relaxing and luxurious bath experience so I went back for more. <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Love-Locket/05066,en_US,pd.html">Love Locket</a> is part of their Valentine's Day collection and even though it's more expensive at $11.95 compared to the regular $5 or $6-ish ones, it can be broken and used for three baths.... Which I mean, I <i>guess </i>justifies the price. The other one <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Sex-Bomb/00157,en_US,pd.html#start=1">Sex Bomb</a> - it's so pretty, and the flower reminds me of a decoration on a cake. Kinda makes me hungry, actually. It's part of their permanent collection, but it's fitting for Valentine's Day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="lush cupid's love soap" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4mLevZTNSLIb-ZpznlA7pzmnVJDXjFVBPa00GLrMkwhTz7YS-ATMM5hKyN_ksNkw6hrOXKDMX0ZOCI5uLAEjK0C0APZO4wgFfZ5CetQUtCWtlu7gsdFXJvxSF9bx0J9wGhttHTE8XTsk/s1600/lush+cupid's%2Blove%2Bsoap.jpg" title="cupid's love soap" /></div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Cupid%27s-Love/05657,en_US,pd.html">Cupid's Love</a> soap, which actually looks nothing like what's shown on the website. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pOkgRE7CXE">This</a> is how it's supposed to look (skip to 0:49 if you don't care about how they make it), with cute heart inserts. As you probably can tell, I did not get a cute heart insert and instead got one of the butt ends. I'm slightly disappointed but at least it smells good!<br />
<br />
<img alt="lush prince charming and rose jam shower gels" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AQLl0QhLpBw/VMQQx08Ix-I/AAAAAAAABq8/9V-wm_cbRME/s1600/lush%2Brose%2Bjam%2C%2Bprince%2Bcharming%2Bshower%2Bgels.jpg" title="prince charming, rose jam" /><br />
<br />
And the last two things, shower gels. <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Prince-Charming/9999905072,en_US,pd.html">Prince Charming</a> wasn't even on my "might try it" list because it includes vanilla in the scent description. I gave it a whiff in the store and WOW it's actually much nicer than I expected. Rose Jam was part of their Christmas collection and I got it a while ago during their buy one, get one free holiday sale. I got two of them, and gave one to Vennesa. Please tell me it comes back every year, because we both love the scent!Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-48469382243411881272015-01-30T08:00:00.000-05:002015-01-30T08:00:00.953-05:00life, lately #4<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="tiny succulent" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmsFvmMlcyesXm5YlwLRTlz9SNE8te4ov5fY209qKEoE4u6BCsPMmO8_7CMEBSrUy5xm_gqLWN4sJ8AhmEos4l2dtJZPkQYam7MPEtC27Y2rC1PDdpYRJYGd7WRBbnppIUQ5PMOi2ewrk/s1600/succulent.jpg" title="succulent + hot dog octopus" /></div>
<br />
Succulents actually need to be watered frequently. Not super frequently, but they still need to be watered. It's true that they can survive without adequate amounts of water, but it doesn't mean that they should. Just like humans. And unfortunately mine has slightly shriveled leaves because I guess I didn't take the dry air from the heating into account. So I have to take back what I said when <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2014/12/succulent.html">I first got it</a>!<br />
<br />
<img alt="harry potter and the chamber of secrets" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bxGo0YTsPdM/VMhIxu-TcQI/AAAAAAAABtI/wxSPLiR3G98/s1600/harry%2Bpotter%2Band%2Bthe%2Bchamber%2Bof%2Bsecrets.jpg" title="harry potter and the chamber of secrets" /><br />
<br />
When <a href="http://citronandguavaberry.blogspot.com/2015/01/hooray-2014-was-not-trainwreck.html">Vanessa mentioned that she didn't finish a single book in 2014</a>, I'm like, well shit, I didn't even pick up a single book in 2014. In my previous relationship my ex (angrily) voiced that fictional books were dumb because it wasn't even real, so therefore it was a waste of time. And being the pushover I was, I listened to him. I've said it once and I'll say it again: Never let someone change something you like to do. Unless you honestly agree that it's for the better. I guess it carried over even after we broke up, but now I'm making an effort to start reading again.<br />
<br />
Currently I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, because Harry Potter is my favorite series and I haven't read any of the books in a long time. I'm starting off with Chamber of Secrets because I don't have the first book, and I don't think I have the sixth one either. It's a sad way to start off a series ;-; I don't think I'll buy the first book, because James has a copy and I'll ask if I can borrow it from him when he returns back to Canada. I like to read for about an hour before I go to sleep. It's a good way to end the day.<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm really happy with where my blog is at the moment. I may not have the thousands of followers we all wish we had, but I'm really satisfied with my content. I think the most important thing is that I can genuinely say I enjoy all the aspects of blogging, from taking and editing pictures to writing posts to commenting and replying to comments. It was an on and off thing at first, but I think anyone who blogs - or anyone who has a hobby, really - feels like that from time to time. Sorry for the blurred out text though, those are upcoming blog posts that I am keeping a secret ;)<br />
<br />

<br />
Classes started on the 28th, which was when my MetroCard conveniently expired. Who starts classes in the middle of the week anyway?? I have a bunch of electives and one art class because all the other art classes were full or the times were inconvenient for me. And the art class is at 8:00 on a Saturday morning, which is just dandy.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-52192604540362007892015-01-28T08:00:00.000-05:002015-01-28T08:00:03.019-05:00beautylish haul | charlotte tilbury, sugarpill, & inglot<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I placed an order on Beautylish for the first time not too long ago. It was mostly for a makeup bag and eyeshadow, but since they have an ongoing promotion for $10 off $50+ for the first order I decided to get a few more things. From the gift-like packaging to the personally handwritten note, I felt like it was so lovingly packed! Definite A+ for the customer service.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="charlotte tilbury makeup bag" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ofy-GVpFmNQ/VMQQnjiHM8I/AAAAAAAABqs/PILkBKBjs9M/s1600/charlotte%2Btilbury%2Bmakeup%2Bbag.jpg" title="charlotte tilbury makeup bag" /></div>
<br />
I hope you're not too let down when you find that instead of buying Charlotte Tilbury makeup, I got her <a href="https://www.beautylish.com/s/charlotte-tilbury-makeup-bag">makeup bag</a> instead. I can't justify spending that much on makeup, especially since I have so much already - but maybe I'll treat myself one day when I give away/swap/sell the makeup I don't use anymore/often. I'll save the details for an upcoming what's in my makeup bag post, I feel that I have a pretty makeup bag to show off now :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="inglot duraline, sugarpill mochi, inglot 121r" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ezKwDh8vZ0/VMRVDpCSmoI/AAAAAAAABsk/37pjLifJIeo/s1600/inglot%2Bduraline%2C%2Bsugarpill%2Bmochi%2C%2Binglot%2B121.jpg" title="inglot duraline, sugarpill mochi, inglot 121r" /></div>
<br />
I was planning on getting some of Urban Decay's 24/7 liquid liners because they're on sale for only $10 each, but when I came across <a href="https://www.beautylish.com/s/inglot-cosmetics-duraline">Duraline</a> I was like f*ck that, *saves money* (sorry UD). It's a mixing medium, so you can use it to transform powder eyeshadows into liquid liner. It's pretty cool, since that means I don't have to spend a fortune on colored eyeliners that I know I won't use too often.<br />
<br />
The eyeshadow I had my eyes on was <a href="https://www.beautylish.com/s/sugarpill-cosmetics-pressed-eyeshadow-mochi">Mochi from Sugarpill</a> - normally I wouldn't go for colors like this, but I have MAJOR inspiration right now and have something fun up my sleeve coming to you soon! The Inglot shadow I got only because I needed the little bit extra for the discount, haha. It's <a href="https://www.beautylish.com/s/inglot-cosmetics-freedom-system-rainbow-eye-shadow-121">#121 from their Freedom System Rainbow eyeshadow</a> range, and I figured I'd get this particular one because I don't have anything like it yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="sugarpill mochi" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FVeq5keqL2k/VMRZ2IOGL1I/AAAAAAAABs0/-zvELD80oOE/s1600/sugarpill%2Bmochi.jpg" title="<3 <3 <3" /></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
LOOK AT THAT SUGARPILL PACKAGING. It's so colorful and fun, and love that they captured that side of makeup versus the modern and sleek designs we usually see. I can't wait to play around with it!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was intact when I got it, but it somehow broke in between me saran-wrapping my bath bombs after I took pictures for my haul post and right before I used it... boo! Sorry it's taken me so long to have this up - I absolutely hate being disturbed when I take baths so I only do it when nobody is home, haha. Northern lights isn't available anymore since it was only around for the holidays, but let's hope it'll come back next year.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sadly I've come to realize that unless I have a decent photography light setup in my bathroom, the lighting is always going to be crappy because there's a wall between the tub and the window. So whenever I move out, I'll have to keep good, natural bathroom lighting in mind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like Sparkler, it didn't deliver in terms of moisture - but now that I think about it, I don't think most bath bombs were made for hydrating the skin unless it says in the product description, like <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Avobath/00052,en_US,pd.html">Avobath </a>or <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Butterball/00012,en_US,pd.html">Butterball</a>? Still, the mini-show in my bathtub was incredible and so was the scent - I'd say it was floral but sexy at the same time. If it came in a perfume, I'd wear it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="lush northern lights" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mUasXhIVB2Y/VLnn2Wg9U-I/AAAAAAAABmo/Ya1TrNKV9T4/s1600/northern%2Blights%2Bbath%2Bbomb.jpg" title="★ ★ ★" /></div>
<br />
The final result: deep purple waters, with floating stars! For anyone that knows me, this is straight up my alley. I believe the website said they were confetti stars, but it's not papery and even though they reminded me of sprinkles you'd find on desserts, they didn't dissolve unless I squished them. I'd repurchase this without a doubt, though next time I'll probably try it with a bath melt.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-61134970906689860572015-01-24T08:51:00.000-05:002015-01-24T08:51:00.048-05:00sakura nendoroid<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ok, so this is a post that probably nobody will care about (and is long overdue) but it's ok cause I don't care (I do care). My Sakura nendoroid came in the mail sometime while I was in California! I took pictures right away when she arrived, and I'd like to think these pictures aren't as nice as my more recent ones because I got better at photography/editing... but that can be debatable.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><img alt="sakura nendoroid box" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-53H2Y7pcGy4/VLxfRr5jGjI/AAAAAAAABo4/KU1jGvc77d4/s1600/sakura%2Bnendoroid%2Bbox.jpg" title="front of the box" /><br />
<br />
<img alt="sakura nendoroid back of box" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q4Xqbkgd3ik/VLxfRhZhVGI/AAAAAAAABo8/BYvtwno0rAs/s1600/sakura%2Bnendoroid%2Bback%2Bof%2Bbox.jpg" title="back of box" /><br />
<br />
<img alt="sakura nendoroid side of box, with different poses" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-DWZBnT7Qo8ZlG30CzzRvQHR6ntjx9yyAXkTK61CxTNJPQDgmnaunsodXO5FbzNtlobuxBXGyjhwq2x669QXoXyLCVesU_OtY4e-GegxzcSxcx-ILMZDZMvochZ1Z3AJKwCNElwXS6b4/s1600/sakura+nendoroid+side+box.jpg" title="side of box with different poses" /><br />
<br />
A look at the box she came in, with different poses. This is like the adult version of an action figure where you put it together and display it instead of playing with it because some parts are EXTREMELY delicate. I also saw one of Toon Link at Nintendo World, but I didn't purchase him because I didn't want to carry it back, haha.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="sakura nendoroid instruction manual/guide" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7xBjvCy7FEs/VLxdXMGpgzI/AAAAAAAABos/4c-YAgjrfV8/s1600/sakura%2Bnendoroid%2Bmanual.jpg" title="instruction manual/guide" /></div>
<br />
She came with an instruction manual/guide, which I promptly tossed to the side and later wondered "How the f*ck do you put her together."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="sakura nendoroid happy pose" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m5pDN_b9j00/VLxhvRmALzI/AAAAAAAABpk/dByQV3Ybw6E/s1600/sakura%2Bnendoroid.jpg" title="happy pose" /></div>
<br />
<img alt="sakura nendoroid kyaaa pose" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nc784mJytYo/VLxfSOKBgQI/AAAAAAAABpM/d84TLNEaZlk/s1600/sakura%2Bnendoroid%2Bcute%2Bpose.jpg" title="kyaaaa" /><br />
<br />
Some of her different poses and expressions. The cool thing about these is that you can literally put them into whatever poses you want to try because all the parts are interchangeable. But for the love of all things holy I couldn't get her into the pose where she's flying on her wand without something falling out. It took me a while to realize that her Clow Circle came wedged between two layers of cardboard in the back of the box too, so that's why it's not included in the picture where she seals/uses a card.<br />
<br />
She now sits at my desk, looking all cute and stuff ♥Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-85473990489420961012015-01-22T08:00:00.000-05:002015-01-22T08:00:05.704-05:00first sephora haul of the year extras: point perks + freebies<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="sephora point perks - dolce & gabbana dolce, bumble and bumble repair blow dry, clinique take the day off makeup remover, fresh life" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lDMbt4Xvia8/VLnn24YsEfI/AAAAAAAABms/KbkVR1TA35A/s1600/sephora%2Bpoint%2Bperks%2Band%2Bfreebies.jpg" title="sephora point perks" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most Sephora orders probably wouldn't be complete without their point perks and occasional gift with purchases. I feel like I mostly justified <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/first-sephora-haul-of-year.html">my recent haul</a> because of these, hahaha. I'm trying out typing paragraphs as well. I like to list things out because I feel like it's more clear, but at the same time I feel like it makes me write more unnecessary things...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First up, the perfumes! I usually never buy perfumes because I have so many from Sephora's samples and point perks, haha. I got <a href="http://www.sephora.com/dolce-P385301?skuId=1601327">D&G Dolce</a> solely for the packaging - how pretty is that! It smells quite lovely as well. There's something unexplainable about this fragrance that I really like, it's floral but not too floral. I won't finish this bottle because it's purely for show, but the bigger version might come home with me one day. I also got <a href="http://www.sephora.com/fresh-life-P384792?skuId=1573187">Fresh Life</a> because my sister had a deluxe sample as well, and I liked the scent. It's clean, fresh, and citrusy without being powdery. I'll keep it in my bag to use, but I won't be purchasing the full size. From what I've experienced Fresh fragrances don't last very long, probably 3 or 4 hours at most.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="sephora point perks - dolce & gabbana dolce, bumble and bumble repair blow dry, clinique take the day off makeup remover, fresh life" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl1U7DU3y_GBbyfrJ5KcjLGQRXeETIUDhcUy1HHyCTIUs41nyG61XUjsj1iCUB-OUzDumzfbTabLvyWNBgTi_mF5radkcfTZPlwF7vbxRSigzYgQBkZPVF9ZORAbPO0_pR1Faeifpho-g/s1600/sephora+point+perks.jpg" title="sephora point perks" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I absolutely haaate washing my hair in the winter because it's so cold, and recently I've been blow drying my hair instead of my preferred air drying. My sister has the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/straight-blow-dry-P297554?skuId=1376318">Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry</a> and I liked it a lot so I wanted to try a different product from the brand, and <a href="http://www.sephora.com/repair-blow-dry-P391796?skuId=1668045">Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow Dry</a> was up as one of Sephora's 100-point perks. I've only tried it once and I don't like it as much as the one my sister has, so I won't be purchasing the full size. <a href="http://www.sephora.com/take-the-day-off-makeup-remover-for-lids-lashes-lips-P122735?skuId=48074">Clinique's Take The Day Off makeup remover</a>, however, I do like! It's oil-based so it does a great job at removing makeup, and it leaves only a little bit of oily residue.</div>
<br />
And lastly, the Pantone journal that everything is standing on was the most exciting for me. It was a one-day offer that Sephora tweeted. I love getting new notebooks, especially cute ones. I couldn't find the exact same one online, but there is a brighter version available (also the same alternate one that I have, haha) on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pantone-Chips-Journal-Inc/dp/0811877558">Amazon</a>.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-53190529115813348102015-01-21T15:24:00.000-05:002015-01-21T15:24:36.419-05:00photo diary | new years<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Whoops, this post was supposed to come out first, before the one on the <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2015/01/american-museum-of-natural-history.html">American Museum of Natural History</a> but I accidentally switched these two. Copping what <a href="http://www.sartorialdiner.com/">Stephanie </a>does with some of her posts with the location thing, 'cause I think it's a neat way to showcase where you were at the time, without cluttering up the title. It's a little silly to be putting my own neighborhood but hey, I'm not familiar with most of New York City anyway.<br />

<br />
James and I were thinking about watching the ball drop as something we should do at least once in our lives... but there was no way we were going to wait for 5+ hours in freezing temperatures. I was a little underwhelmed at how far away the ball was! When I was younger I would always watch the ball drop with my parents and the cameras always had it close up and I kinda expected it to be bigger and not as far away in person, haha. The Empire State building was looking very jazzy, though!<br />

<br />
After going to the American Museum of Natural History on the following day, we went to Nintendo World and I think we want just about everything there. I love how there are people from almost every age group and background being in one place and nerding out to the same thing. There needs to be more of that, for everything. None of that "you're too young/old/whatever for that" kind of thing.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I tried false lashes for the first time with this makeup look. Vennesa got them for me - not as a gift, just that we were shopping at Target and she got groceries and I only got these eyelashes and an avocado so she paid for my things. I would have posted some close-ups but alas, my application was so sloppy and overall, terrible. How do some people do this on a daily basis? More importantly, HOW DO THEY DO IT IN ONE FELL SWOOP? Also sorry for the triple eyelid, it was just not cooperating with me today.<br />

I'm so sorry that I used so many palettes LOL I know not everyone is as palette-crazy as I am. Just keep in mind that there are other color options out there too, if you don't have the same particular eyeshadow. I'll try to do a few makeup looks in the future with just one palette.<br />

<br />
....Ok, here's a close-up of my horrendously failed false lashes. But it's alright, right? Probably not everyone can get it right on the first try. Perhaps this can be a gentle reminder that if you wish to try false lashes, they probably won't go on right the first time. Or maybe everyone else is good at falsies for the first time and I'm the odd one out :PBeckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-18072914482973640132015-01-17T09:34:00.000-05:002015-01-17T09:34:00.060-05:002014 favorites | hair and bodycare<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2xrkE1SS0agO2R89ssCigbf-DjyXRKk9VzBqEqT4o-c3ocIdIBG7_tL4ZV_AFRVWrnkpUx9jhEcVl3hlOyS-U66BKAmxnEHKyqJ_o3OF4ddGw5hPySeE0esGEA17ag5Ur6n4BXye6WoI/s1600/the+body+shop+body+butters,+soap+and+glory+hand+food,+skincraft+organics+deodorant,+fixx+argan+oil+no+frizz+serum.jpg" /></div>
<br />
I was a pretty late bloomer when it came to makeup, and it's no different in terms of haircare and bodycare. In fact 2014 was the year that I started taking care of my hair and skin, and before that I'd rarely use lotions or hair products.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.sephora.com/hand-food-hand-cream-P294731"><b>soap & glory</b> hand food</a> » My all-time favorite hand cream. I've gone through more tubes of this stuff than I can count, and when I can't squeeze any more out I snip off the top so I can get to the extra left in the crevices. My boss and coworkers always mention how I use this all the time. It sinks in very quickly, keeps my hands moisturized until my next hand wash, and doesn't leave a greasy feeling. It also smells nice, but not overpowering. I know it's probably a very boring description - it's what everyone looks for in a hand cream, and this one hits all the points for me. I switch my hand creams up from time to time, but I always come back to this one.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.shop.com/Fixx+trade+Argan+Oil+No+Frizz-561800379-p+.xhtml?credituser=C8070698"><b>fixx </b>argan oil no-frizz hair serum</a> » Like all haircare products, this is a temporary fix for damaged or unruly hair but it's one is my favorite by far. I work about two pumps of it into the ends of my boob-length hair (is there a better way to say that??) when it's still damp, after towel drying. Back when I used to bleach and dye my hair like crazy, this is the one product that did wonders for my damaged ends... Words can't describe my feelings for this product, so see the post on Instagram, <a href="http://instagram.com/p/fvIM79I5G_/">here</a>!<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi5NJoJgjE18nG788w1UPkj7HiwfXjn0Pq-wsQbKBILxCOZDel0SZyH8fF4omAsBc9Ju714a108QwDX0oOXEIqvpNZecaaIipndDXrNNZG0UEV5n2VRra_Ixdjb3dALWKJteVLSkcVfmE/s1600/the+body+shop+body+butter.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/bath-body-care/body-moisturizers/body-butter.aspx#/body-butter.aspx"><b>the body shop</b> body butters</a> » These body butters are intensely hydrating and my super dry skin loves them. It does leave a slight film, but I think it's so that it keeps the moisture in instead of evaporating. I also love how many scents there are, and even though most of them are a basic, flat scent there's probably something for everyone. I'm not kidding when these are making it into my bodycare favorites. Out of this picture I've finished the three minis, and about one and a half of the fullsize containers. Don't even get me started on how many empty containers I've thrown into the trash. Personally my favorite scent is the <a href="http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/shop-by-line/olive/body-butter-olive.aspx">Olive</a> one :)<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_uVJqXxd7yc/VLnAPqDu4rI/AAAAAAAABl8/PAbtZEg6Dwc/s1600/skincraft%2Borganics%2Bfresh%2Bcut%2Bdeodorant.jpg" style="text-align: center;" /><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/106795715/natural-deodorant-jasmine-ylang-ylang-w?ref=shop_home_active_3"><b>skincraft organics</b> fresh cut deodorant</a> » I mentioned this <a href="http://www.star-violet.com/2014/04/some-favorites-im-back.html">quite a while back</a> and I'm still loving it. It smells good - though not exactly like freshly cut flowers, maybe the tea tree oil overpowers it? - and it lets me sweat like I'm supposed to do without body odor stinking up the place. It also doesn't leave a waxy film after showering, which is the main reason I avoided wearing deodorant like the plague for years. Gross fact but hey, I'm being honest. Also, almost a year later, I'm still using the same tube. Out of curiosity I twisted it all the way up and then all the way down to see how much I've used and OVER HALF OF IT IS LEFT. Now I'm quite aware that this is way past the "best used by" date but I swear, it's still as good as it was when it first arrived in the mail.<br />
<br />
That's the last of my 2014 favorites, finally! That felt like a ton of products to go through and write about, and I feel like a lot of bloggers did their yearly favorites in a much more efficient way, haha. Note to self when it comes around to do 2015 favorites: take note of <a href="http://www.blackandgrey.ca/2014/12/favourite-beauty-products-of-2014.html">Terri's </a>and <a href="http://www.blushandbrunch.com/2014/12/14-favorites-of-2014.html">Rachael's </a>favorites because I NEED TO STOP WRITING PARAGRAPHS UPON PARAGRAPHS.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12218252766900212242noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3861826755536591360.post-86062615488155519102015-01-15T08:05:00.000-05:002015-01-15T21:47:04.245-05:00photo diary | american museum of natural history<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Going to the Museum of Natural History on New Year's Day was probably one of the worst ideas I've ever made. Somehow in my mind I thought "Well yesterday was New Year's Eve, so people are probably going back home today." It was super crowded there! Even so, James and I had a pretty good time there minus the crowds and overpriced food. But at least the overpriced food was tasty. I should have taken some photos of the building itself, but with only a prime 50mm lens I'd have to stand two streets away just to get a decent picture! So note to self: get a zoom lens.</div>

Obligatory hipster ceiling photo. Note to self: get a zoom lens.<br />

I don't remember what these were exactly, but I do remember commenting that they looked like potatoes.<br />

We went to see the <a href="http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/space-show/new-space-show-dark-universe">Dark Universe exhibition</a> (unfortunately we weren't allowed to film or take pictures) and while it was interesting it was the kind of environment to just kind of... take a nap. It was cozy and dark in there.<br />
