After sorting through my makeup favorites from this year... there's too many! I'm sure most of you guys can relate, haha. I'm be splitting this section into a few separate posts, cause I don't like having super long posts myself. So here's part one of the (hopefully) makeup favorites trilogy: bases, and the little things at the end that tie everything together.
I'm changing things up a little bit by trying out different styles in writing... Usually I like to provide a (quite lengthy) mini review but I'll try to shorten things up a little bit especially since most of these products aren't new to the blog... I suppose that's the point of having these as my all-time favorites this year, though! A lot of these are featured in my everyday makeup post as well, if you'd like to read about how I use these products.
First things first
laura mercier foundation primer » I like this primer a lot 'cause it's water-based and makes my makeup blend flawlessly, compared to silicone-based primers that makes makeup look patchy. This was in my November favorites, and the version with SPF was in my September favorites.
nars sheer glow in ceylan » One of the few things that hasn't been mentioned, yet. I don't always wear foundation, but when I do I like NARS Sheer Glow. Man it took me foreveeer to find my shade (should have asked for samples but I'm a wimp), but it was worth it. Despite the name Sheer Glow, it doesn't make me look dewy at all nor is it sheer, but rather like glowing-from-within-skin.
nars radiant creamy concealer in honey » If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that this is my all-time favorite concealer. I've raved about it here and here, and repurchased it here!
bobbi brown corrector in light bisque » My ultimate dark-circle lifesaver. It's a corrector so it's meant to cancel out the darkness from underneath my eyes instead of just covering it up. Most of these come in unnatural shades when it comes to matching skin, so you'll need to use a regular concealer on top.
And now for the little details that make all the difference...
motives for lala eyebrow pencil in dark brown » For when I'm running late, which is 95% of the time. It's a no-frills eyebrow pencil - I outline the bottom of my eyebrows and extend it past the tail just a little bit, flip it over to the spoolie side to blend out, and my brows are done in seconds.
anastasia dipbrow pomade in ebony » When I have more time to spare (or when my angled brush isn't loaded with black gel liner), I go for this on my eyebrows. It's really easy to create the sharp bottom eyebrow... line that I really like, though it takes some time to blend out. A little bit goes a super long way! Also mentioned in my September favorites.
make up for ever microfinish powder » I don't know what it is, but something in this product makes it go on soooo smoothly. It's unlike any other powder I've tried. It's also nice for prepping the lashes - a little bit of powder on them stubby hairs before mascara will add lots of volume!
maybelline the falsies flared waterproof mascara » My favorite mascara, and it's drugstore! My lashes are suuuper stubborn to work with so most mascaras will only last 3 or 4 hours before smudging all over the place. It's the very first mascara I purchased, and it's probably going to be the one I'll keep going back to.
Now that I've covered the products I like to use for evening out my skin, the blushes, bronzers, and highlighters will come next. I'm going to be posting these on consecutive days because there isn't as much time as I thought there was until this year is over!
The Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade is an absolute essential to my everyday look, great post x
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely and happy new year (:

Ooooh I want to try that primer!!! And I love Maybelline falsies! I don't know if I've tried the flared out one though!
ReplyDeleteAdore the Bobbi Brown corrector! Need to give the NARS foundation a go, everyone raves about it x

That NARS concealer! I really need to give it a chance. Absolutely everyone loves it.
ReplyDeleteThe MUFE HD Microfinish powder is great at giving my makeup a nice even finish. I also like to use finishing powders to give me stubbly lashes a bit of volume before mascara!
I've heard so many great things about the Nars Sheer Glow this year, but I feel like my wallet would be a bit too sad if I spent that much :( I purchased the Maybelline Falsies Waterproof Mascara a couple months ago, but it doesn't give me as much definition as I would like (but my friend also raved about it, so maybe I got a bad tube?) I would recommend the Maybelline Waterproof Rocket Mascara because I think it works even better and holds a great curl! xx

At first I didn't really get the hype, but the 1000+ positive reviews on Sephora couldn't lie!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Wishing you'll have a great new year x
Hahaha, I feel like I'm always talking about that one!
ReplyDeleteI found out that this is literally the same thing as the MUFE powder at a fraction of the cost!!! The NARS concealer has been my favorite ever since I've started using it.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a lot of people either love or hate Maybelline falsies. I really love that primer, I feel like I can talk nonstop about it haha!
ReplyDeleteIt's the only thing that can correct my undereye discoloration, love it :) It seems like everyone raves about the NARS foundation!
ReplyDeletecool thank you for letting me know! i just got the NARS translucent setting powder back in the summer so i'll have to get through that first (not bad, but not cheap!), will keep this coastal scents one in mind :) xx
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those products everyone and their cats are talking about! Definitely one of the easiest concealers to use out there. I found out about a powder that Coastal Scents makes that's pretty similar to the MUFE one and a ton cheaper, the reviews say it's literally the same ingredient except the one MUFE makes is a tad more finely milled. It's here if you're interested!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a pricier foundation, but it's worth it in my opinion! A slightly less pricier favorite of mine is Too Faced BB Cream, though it's mostly for days when I'm rushing to get out of the house and don't have time for my sunscreen to sink in. I'll have to try the Rocket mascara next - one of the reasons I like the Falsies is because it looks quite natural (despite the name haha) and at the time I wasn't looking for a ton of definition in my lashes.
ReplyDeleteSheer glow just makes skin look.... good. Not matte but not dewy, it makes skin look like skin but BETTER THAN SKIN and they come in soooo many shades that you're bound to find yours and not have to go mixing stuff around and MAN I could ramble on and on about it.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly Maybelline Falsies is one of the few mascaras that don't smudge on me! I heard a lot of people don't like how the wand is kinda bendy, but it doesn't seem to be a problem for me??
Man, NARS is really taking the cake for the number of times its bases have made it into peoples' 2014 beauty favourites! WHAT IS IT ABOUT SHEER GLOW THAT EVERYONE LOVES SO MUCH? AM I SUPPOSED TO GIVE INTO THE HYPE?
ReplyDeleteI didn't care too much for Maybelline's The Falsies, mostly because I hated the brush, and the waterproof formula smudged on me :(
