how do i lipstick

When it comes to makeup, lips are definitely not my forte. I've only started wearing lipsticks quite recently - as in, a week ago recently. Certain (matte-ish) lipsticks that other people don't seem to have a problem with tend to accentuate the cracks in my lips. While it can probably be remedied by taking care of my lips, well - I don't know how. All I really do is use lip balm, drink a ton of water, and exfoliate whenever I remember to.

Help a sista out, what are your tips for lipstick prep and application? :)

  1. Ugh, I feel you. I have terrible flakey lips during the winter time, and I drink tons of water. Sometimes I'll exfoliate and put on a thick and creamy lip balm, then do my makeup so it sinks it, and then do my lipstick last. I've heard of people doing lip masks, but I'm also afraid of accidentally licking it off and eating it, hahaha.

  2. Your not alone on this haha! I don't understand how peoole can wear matte lipsticks because my lips are so dry too. I feel like I just got into lipstick a year or so ago. When my lips look to dry after lipstick, I put a tiny bit of gloss on over it and if it looks like too much, I blot it a little. That's really my only tip haha!

  3. I sometimes put lip balm right on top, it helps a little but doesn't make the lipstick last as long as it should. I feel like lipstick is the same as wearing heels, comfortable just means it's comfortable relative to other heels/matte lipsticks but aren't really that comfortable :P

  4. Ooooo lip masks, I'll look into those! Tasty lip products are the worst, sometimes I find myself eating my sugar lip scrub haha, which is actually pretty gross when I think about it.

  5. I just stumbled across your blog and I really love it :) Looking forward to reading all your future posts!

When it comes to lipstick application I love applying the lipstick, blotting it and then reapplying and blotting a second time. i find you're left with a long lasting stain which is easier to wear than a full on heavy lip xx

  6. ettusais lip essence is always a life saver. i'll apply it and let it sink in for a bit as i do the rest of my makeup, then apply lipstick on top. it'll be a little slippery going on so i won't be able to achieve an intense color, but the lipstick will definitely glide on and won't cling onto any dry skin so it's a good compromise on dry lip days :)

  7. Thank you so much for the kind words! :)

I prefer to blot after I apply some lipsticks too. I personally don't think I can pull off a full, heavy lip yet - but I'm jealous of the people who can!

  8. I'll definitely look into that, thank you! Might as well, especially after spending $30+ on YSL lipsticks hahah. I love the feeling of having lipstick on, it makes me feel a ton more confident and badass than I really am!

  9. Haha, it comes in such a cute tube, I love the packaging. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind - I just wish it was more readily available in the US!

  10. I do pretty much the same as you - drink water, exfoliate, use lip balm (I use Nuxe rève de Miel which is a life saver for those with dry lips!) - but don't wear lipstick that often! By the way you look lovely in that photo, your cheekbones look amazing!

  11. Haha, I guess it's just different people get different results. Thank you for the kind words! But it's probably just the contouring doing its magic ;)
