hi, i'm becky.

Hi guys!!! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I took a short (albiet unannounced) break from blogging and while it was nice to just do "me" for a little bit, it's time to get back on here. Blogging is something I love to do, but at times I get really frustrated/unmotivated/negative as well... and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way about anything they love - their jobs, hobbies, even friends and family. I feel like this break was a good thing, because now I'm really excited to start blogging again!

This is inspired by Grace's post. Also because I never really wrote about myself, and it'll be pretty neat to look at this at the end of this year and see what's changed.

So, hi. My name is Becky, and I'm a 22-year old living in New York City.

This is my boyfriend. His name is James, and we were part of a group of friends that played video games together. He's originally from around the Toronto area in Canada (and so are the rest of those friends) but he's working in California for the next few months.

I really like playing video games. Some of my favorites are (were?) Starcraft 2, Killing Floor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Dota 2, though I haven't been playing a lot recently. Most of my gaming buddies don't play that often anymore due to ~real life~ things to take care of and well, it's not as fun without them. I remember working my way up to gold from bronze in Starcraft 2 and I was so proud of myself! Maybe I'll start playing again, sometime this year.

The one thing I've started collecting lately is notebooks, journals, and planners. Most of these were purchased pretty recently, so that's why I say lately. I'm trying to get as much use as I can out of them - in fact I've even started planning out my posts in that panda notebook, though I got that one about a year ago. Realistically I won't be using more than two or three at once, but I dunno. It makes me happy. Other things I collect are the 250-point perfume Sephora perks, and mugs.

I love makeup. When I was younger I didn't really see a purpose in makeup and I thought that only people who were self-conscious about themselves wore it. Now I see makeup as another art in a way, I love how you can change up your look - almost like it's a part of my style. I choose to wear makeup because I have so much fun putting it on, and when I think it looks good my confidence goes up 10000%.

For the longest time I've been out of touch with my crafty side. Up until 3 or 4 years ago, I loved making things from handmade cards to journals to drawing. I also really liked baking things, and I remember once my mom even compared the birthday cheesecake I made for her to a Juniors one. I hope to catch up on that again, this year.

I've been out of school for a while, and I'm going back this year to pursue graphic design. Ideally I'd like to work for myself - as in, not be stuck with a typical 9-5. I don't know what I want to really do for my future yet, but if anything I know I'll have my degree with something I'm interested in doing to fall back on.

I chose "Star Violet" as my blog name from the first MAC eyeshadow I bought, called Star Violet. It's the one in the bottom corner. I really liked it because of the name, I love learning about astronomy and my favorite color is purple. I dropped it on floor once and it completely shattered, but I was able to save it by pressing it back in the pan which explains the weird texture. I've had other blogs before, but this is my most consistent one and I'm very happy with it.

  1. Hiya Becky! And you are beautiful c:

In and out! Thanks for sharing your
life and your favorites ^_^ Xx

  2. Awesome post, Becky! I'm glad your back, and I loved learning more about you! I also love and play a lot of video games. And for some reason I like to collect journals too, but I never use them haha! I always wondered where your blog name came from, and now I kind of want to go buy that eye shadow haha!

  3. I love visiting NYC as it is truly the city that never sleeps! There's always so much excitement, and it makes me extremely happy to be there (reminder to self: visit soon). Every year I have a new planner, and every year I start off using but fail terribly. This year I have decided not to get one and to instead schedule everything on my Google Calendar as it has been my favorite thing lately. I love collecting mugs as well as there are so many cute ones out there :) On a side note, I wanted to say a huge thank you to you for commenting on so many of my posts. It made me so happy that someone would actually catch up on my blog (I never thought this would happen), and put in the time to read and comment :)

  4. Oh, I forgot to mention this but your makeup looks flawless. Your skin seriously looks airbrushed, and I wish I could master eye shadow like you!

  5. I don't read a lot of lifestyle blogs or watch vlogs, but I find it refreshing to learn a bit about a blogger's life as it makes them seem so much more...real! I've always wanted to live in a city and as I'm looking into moving for school soon, I have a lot of options; NY sounds amazing! Also, I've always loved a good journal and have always been that way. I remember begging for journals as early as age five and what ended up happening is I have a bunch of empty journals haha!

    Great post!

  6. Also, how insanely gorgeous are you???

  7. aww i loved reading this post! so great to learn a little more about you, your man and your blog. good luck with school and i hope you find work that you really love and enjoy xx

  10. This whole "hi, my name is _____" reminds me of an AA meeting.
I used to hate makeup, and I swore to my mom that I would never wear lipstick because she used to wear lipstick, and her lipstick stains got on straws and mugs. When we drank from these said straws and mugs, the lipstick didn't taste very good, hence the no-lipstick pledge. And now I've got roughly a dozen lipsticks. How nice.

Star Violet is a lovely name :')

  11. Welcome back! You have so much great make-up!! I have nothing compared to you!

  12. Awww, thank you! <3 Thank you for sharing your life, too! I like reading your peek into my life posts :)

  13. Hehe, always so flattering! <3 I remember you saying you played WoW with your husband or something once, it's always nice to meet a fellow female who likes playing video games :) Star Violet is one of my favorites (of course hahaha) though I don't use it as often as I used to.

  14. I used to be pretty bad at using planners, but I'm pretty darn good at using my current one - probably cause it's cute to look at so I want to use it, hahaha. I love writing stuff down and having something tangible to write in, so that's why I prefer using a planner over my phone/computer.

And of course - I know I haven't been on top of your blog for a while in terms of comments. I always do read your posts, but at times I'm lazy/forget to comment so I'm trying to put in a little more effort on the missed posts :P

  15. I get what you mean, usually I'm not interested in lifestyle blogs/vlogs either but I like seeing lifestyle posts/videos in between the beauty/diy/whatever ones. After living in a big city all my life, I want to move to a smaller and less busy one! I always loved journals as well, but I never really wrote in them until now :P

  16. Thank you for the super sweet comment <3 A career sounds crazy to even think about, right now!

  17. Haha, thank you! I hope you'll enjoy New York, there's definitely a lot of things to learn and see :)

  18. HAHA I didn't think of it that way! And socks. I like to collect socks as well to mismatch and drive all those organized people nuts.

I used to hate lipsticks because I was convinced that my lip shape wasn't made for them. And now I'm just like WHATEVER as long as they're moisturized and smooth it's actually not that bad! I probably have around 4 or 5 right now, but I can see it growing in the very near future n_______n

    + thank you! :)

  19. It's definitely something that's grown over time!
