photo diary | american museum of natural history

Going to the Museum of Natural History on New Year's Day was probably one of the worst ideas I've ever made. Somehow in my mind I thought "Well yesterday was New Year's Eve, so people are probably going back home today." It was super crowded there! Even so, James and I had a pretty good time there minus the crowds and overpriced food. But at least the overpriced food was tasty. I should have taken some photos of the building itself, but with only a prime 50mm lens I'd have to stand two streets away just to get a decent picture! So note to self: get a zoom lens.

Obligatory hipster ceiling photo. Note to self: get a zoom lens.

I don't remember what these were exactly, but I do remember commenting that they looked like potatoes.

I really like rocks and stuff. Does the copper specimen remind you of a certain Pokemon? ;)

We went to see the Dark Universe exhibition (unfortunately we weren't allowed to film or take pictures) and while it was interesting it was the kind of environment to just kind of... take a nap. It was cozy and dark in there.

I had to stand at least 20 feet away to get a decent picture of the octopus. Note to self: GET A ZOOM LENS

I kind of wanted to sit in the shell.

  1. You found an Onix! Haha before I read the caption you put underneath the copper Rock specimen I was like hey that looks like an Onix lolol!!
This place looks really great! I would love to go to more museums like this! I totally hate crowds too though, so I understand what you mean!

  2. I need to visit the Museum of Natural History next time I'm in New York! I've been to so many art galleries and museums there the past 4 times I went to visit, but I never made the time to hit up this one unfortunately. I used to collect rocks when I was a kid, lol.

Also, I would've thought that the museum would be quieter on New Year's Day too! Aren't people supposed to be hungover that day? :P

  3. Wow! Great pictures. Thanks for the virtual tour :) Seems like I've went to the museum after seeing these pictures <3

Looking forward to see more of your posts!

I'm now following you on bloglovin. Hope you'll do the same :)

    Have a nice day! :)

  4. The museum look interesting haha but the bug give me the eerie feel! Hehe (: x

  5. I've been to there a few times now and it's pretty cool! Definitely a bad decision going on New Years Day though aha!

  6. Haha, high five! I actually don't think I like huge museums anymore after this visit LOL it's really tiring to walk all over the place and at the end of the day our legs felt like jelly! Crowds are the worst lol, I remember we saw a toddler on a leash that day :P

  7. Heh I still collect rocks n______n I want to find more museums/art galleries to go to that aren't super huge cause my legs were DYING after that day - even though it was worth it in the end!

That's what we thought too, plus the many people being out late at Times Square watching the ball drop.

  8. Awww, thank you! :) You have a nice day, as well!

  9. Yeah definitely! I hate bugs, but they're kind of fascinating up close and when you know they can't come near you :P

  10. Yeah, I really thought it wouldn't be crowded cause people would either be tired from last night or they'd be flying back home! Glad to hear that you liked it :)

  11. HAHA, see, this is why I didn't bring my prime lens when I was hoppin around in Europe (I bought two lenses which I kept interchanging: 10-22 and 24-105)
I've never been to this museum, but it looks quite promising! That ceiling is gorgeous (I'd want a print of that), and 'Dark Universe' sounds like it could be the title of a Marvel movie

  12. I always make it a point to visit the International Center of Photography. I haven't been disappointed yet; there's usually something interesting on exhibit there, and it's not a very large space, so you won't tire yourself out. :P

I went into the Met on my first trip to New York and was completely overwhelmed by it. I think my friend and I saw 2 or 3 of the exhibits before we needed to get out there for some air lol.

  13. My sister went to the one in LA and sent me pictures and told me about it. These museums are fascinating!! I love the pictures youve taken (but good luck getting a zoom lens as well hehe). Hmm I'd have thought new years day itself would have been less crowded but I guess Id have been very wrong:) Glad you had fun though..I wish we had something like this montreal :(

  14. I really like museums in general! I only wish the ones in New York were smaller haha, 5+ hours and we still didn't finish the entire thing... I guess we went there cause it was one of the things that were open on New Year's day, and maybe everyone else thought the same thing?!

  15. Haha, that shell looks like a carriage to me! I loved the Museum of Natural History when I visited a while back :) Just curious, but did you put the little location thing (New York City, New York) in your post?

  16. It looks rather comfy to me LOL

I got the location idea from Stephanie @ Sartorial Diner and the location pin from here, just tweaked it to my liking :)
