life, lately #4

tiny succulent

Succulents actually need to be watered frequently. Not super frequently, but they still need to be watered. It's true that they can survive without adequate amounts of water, but it doesn't mean that they should. Just like humans. And unfortunately mine has slightly shriveled leaves because I guess I didn't take the dry air from the heating into account. So I have to take back what I said when I first got it!

harry potter and the chamber of secrets

When Vanessa mentioned that she didn't finish a single book in 2014, I'm like, well shit, I didn't even pick up a single book in 2014. In my previous relationship my ex (angrily) voiced that fictional books were dumb because it wasn't even real, so therefore it was a waste of time. And being the pushover I was, I listened to him. I've said it once and I'll say it again: Never let someone change something you like to do. Unless you honestly agree that it's for the better. I guess it carried over even after we broke up, but now I'm making an effort to start reading again.

Currently I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, because Harry Potter is my favorite series and I haven't read any of the books in a long time. I'm starting off with Chamber of Secrets because I don't have the first book, and I don't think I have the sixth one either. It's a sad way to start off a series ;-; I don't think I'll buy the first book, because James has a copy and I'll ask if I can borrow it from him when he returns back to Canada. I like to read for about an hour before I go to sleep. It's a good way to end the day.

blog organization

I'm really happy with where my blog is at the moment. I may not have the thousands of followers we all wish we had, but I'm really satisfied with my content. I think the most important thing is that I can genuinely say I enjoy all the aspects of blogging, from taking and editing pictures to writing posts to commenting and replying to comments. It was an on and off thing at first, but I think anyone who blogs - or anyone who has a hobby, really - feels like that from time to time. Sorry for the blurred out text though, those are upcoming blog posts that I am keeping a secret ;)

messy survey of ancient art notes

Classes started on the 28th, which was when my MetroCard conveniently expired. Who starts classes in the middle of the week anyway?? I have a bunch of electives and one art class because all the other art classes were full or the times were inconvenient for me. And the art class is at 8:00 on a Saturday morning, which is just dandy.

  1. Your succulent is adorable! Reading ruts are the worst thing ever so I hope you find lots of good books to read this upcoming year :) Revisiting Harry Potter is always such a joy.

  2. I want a little succulent haha yours is so cute!
That's so exciting you're rereading Harry potter! It's my favorite series too and Ive read them all so many times. The 6th is my favorite so I hope you can get it when it's time to read that one again!! Also if anyone told me that fiction reading was a waste of time I would throw all my (350+) books at them LOL! And I'm so glad your happy with where your blog is right now!

  3. Hi! I'm happy to have found your blog - thanks for stopping by mine! I feel like I'm also starting to get in my blogging groove - I've been happy with the content that I'm creating and the frequency that I'm putting it out at. Last night I even planned all of my posts for February! (haha let's see if I can actually stick to that though ... I'm a bit skeptical.)

I can't believe you have class on Saturday morning! That is the worst. Sorry - I know I'm late to the party here - but what kind of classes are you taking?

  5. THAT TINY OCTOPUS THO. No offense, but your ex sounds ~so dumb, fo'real~. Just because something is a work of fiction doesn't mean its not derived from a grain of truth and its lessons taught can't be applied to real life. GOSH U.U
Anyways, I've been reading pretty frequently before bedtime too...which is nice because I'm finally reading again, but terrible because I end up so engrossed that I don't sleep until 3/4 am, which really messes up my sleeping patterns ._.

  8. Agreed. Harry Potter is the best series! I don't have any of the books or movies (SO ASHAMED OF MYSELF FOR SAYING THAT,) but I've been listening to the Goblet of Fire (my favorite book) on 8Tracks recently. Perfect thing for the bath! Out of the movies, I would say the Order of the Phoenix was my favorite, and my friends and I are planning a HP party sometime in the next few months!

I feel exactly the same way as you in terms of blogging at the moment. It's the one thing I almost always look forward to from taking/editing pictures, writing posts, coming up with new ideas, commenting, and the list goes on and on. The blogging community is such a wonderful place to be, and I think it's quite the confidence booster as well knowing that you have created something so wonderful to be proud of. Waking up to lovely comments is the only thing I look forward to in the morning (I am definitely not a morning person.) I don't know how I make these weird connections, but as I am currently stressed out over which colleges I will be accepted to (and I have friends already accepted to great colleges so the stress right now is pretty real,) blogging is the one thing I know will always be there for me as cheesy as it sounds :)

  9. ooo so cute the succulent! alan and i have been really into those lately too, he got one and i guess we got lucky because with minimal effort it grew so tall we had to move it into a bigger pot haha :) my ex was the same, he used to make jokes about me reading for pleasure!! i have no idea why but that definitely affected my reading habits back then. fortunately that was years and years ago, and i'm very much back into reading now. glad that you are too! :)

  10. I'm completely with you on the up and down feelings of blogging, but you should be so proud of your blog as it's great. I was wondering if you wanted to follow each other via GFC or BlogLovin'? I'm keen to get to know more people and make friends in this little blogging community.

  11. Hehe, thank you~ Totally agree, I remember when I was younger and I'd read whatever new Harry Potter installment came out in a day!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Haha, it's just mostly the same ideas! I like to write it on my planner, then plan out the post in another notebook, and have a to-do list so I remember :P Glad to hear you're enjoying blogging as well!

  13. Of course! I like your blog a lot~ I have my posts planned for most of February, just missing a few days here and there. I believe you can do it! It's just a matter of routine and habits :)

And no worries, I didn't mention the classes I'm taking anyway - thank you for asking! It's two art history classes, an archaeology class (aka history hahaha), pain and pleasure in psychology, and the principles of design class on Saturday. I'm actually quite enjoying the Saturday class a lot more than the other ones so it's worth it!

  14. LOL Ashley your comment made my day!!! Harry Potter is always exciting for me, I could never get tired of the series! My favorites are the third, fifth, and sixth ones. Which reminds me that I want to rewatch the movies as well!

  15. No offense taken, because he was!! It was a pretty bad relationship to begin with, though I don't regret it because I feel like there were things I was able to take out of it to make myself a better person, as dumb as that sounds haha. Funny thing was, he liked watching Chinese dramas ALL THE TIME and it's basically fictional too......

I can't afford to stay up that late, I have 8am classes three days out of the week so a lot of the time I don't even have the energy to keep reading u______u but yoooo I used to stay up that late when I was younger reading Harry Potter!

  16. I think it's so cute haha :') gonna buy some more, in the near future!

  17. Haha, that used to be me but I've gotten a little better at it fortunately :)

  18. Nothing to be ashamed of - there's only so many books you can have at once! I used to borrow them from the library before I bought them, anyway. Even though a lot of people listen to audiobooks and I can see why it's so convenient, it's not something I'm used to yet!

Yes to being proud of your blog! Before I'd shy away from self-promotion, and even now I'm hiding it from my friends LOL but I did promise James I'd show this to him whenever I reach 314 followers on Bloglovin' or GFC. I've become such a morning person recently - I love taking my time and I don't want the only reason for me to wake up to be work or class, if that makes sense. You shouldn't stress over colleges - I know it's hard to say especially with Asian expectations from family haha. Even if you get into a "bad" college, you can still work your way back into the college/s you were hoping to get accepted into :)

  19. Mine is growing pretty slowly I think, though I see some new leaves(?) forming!

Glad to know I'm not the only one letting others affect what I like doing - I think it's a lot easier to say things like "don't let them affect you" than to do!

  20. Mhm! Especially since fantasy/sci fi books are my favorite to read :)

  21. Thank you for the kind words! It's just a hobby thing I suppose, I feel the same way about a lot of the things I like to do, if it's something I take seriously :P

  22. I havent watered my succulents in ages and luckily they are OK! Should give them a January drink really

  23. Aww thank you for the great advice, Becky! Yeah, I think I've come to a point where I'm going to learn to accept where I get into because undergrad is only one stage of my life :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Haha, it's a blessing they can survive without too much water!
