2014 | year in review

So here it is, my year in review. I think it's really nice to think back and reminisce about the good things that happened this year. This year has been particularly good to me, and I'm really happy for the things that I got to do. Most of these pictures were taken on my phone, before I got a fancy shmancy camera - but I still hold them close to my heart cause memories are still memories. It's a lot easier to capture moments on a cellphone camera rather than a heavy DSLR anyway!

i'm back!

I had an amazing time with James in California. He booked us a hotel in San Francisco for a few days and we got to explore Japan Town and the California Academy of Sciences, but honestly I'm really happy just being able to be with him. I'm back in New York now and I'm still settling in - I actually woke up late yesterday morning for work because of jet lag, so I will leave you with a few pictures from Instagram as a quick update.

It's always sad to leave, but I suppose the silver lining is we'll see each other again soon. He's coming here at the end of December, so that's something to look forward to!

the little things, from waterloo

My other favorite photo of us. James kept this one, so I took a picture of it before I left.

We ate at Watami for dinner one of the nights. The time I visited before this one, James' housemate thought we went there without ordering their volcano salad (I distinctly remember him saying, "You went to Watami without ordering the volcano salad? Awwww, you fked up!" So we tried the volcano salad which isn't even close to being a salad, and it's HUGE. We were going to order two of these, but thankfully the waitress suggested that we only get one because it's not the typical salad. It has the components of one - cucumbers, sweet potato, squid - but it's all lightly battered, deep fried, and covered in spicy mayo and hoisin sauce. So good, but so bad at the same time.

Some fair, which was full of street performers and carnival rides. We sat in a few shows which were pretty amusing to watch which included a gymnast in disguise, and a knife- and fire-throwing duo.

Brachydios decal on his 3DS, which I helped put on! But it's still a little bit crooked on the top, haha.

James attempted eggs in a hole, except it was more like eggs in bell peppers. It didn't work out as good as we hoped it would.

We drew on some leftover eggs James had, before giving them to his housemate. It seems like we have a thing for eggs.

(Yeah ok, I should have posted these a long time ago. Like, August-long time ago. I kind of forgot. Or pushed it back until now. Or something.)

waterloo | clay & glass museum

Hi. I meant to do this post weeks ago but... I really have no excuse except for laziness, haha.

James and I went to the Clay and Glass museum after brunch at Coffee Culture, where half of the museum had nothing to do with clay and glass but rather the architecture of some of the buildings in Waterloo and Kitchener. It's interesting seeing the concept sketches and plans, and how an idea can turn into something big like that.

Some map of the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

Blurry, but one of my favorites! The onl part of this gallery I remember is photographs on easels or something like that.y

I guess some kids were having a field trip to the museum or something, since there was a big sheet of paper where it looks like they were supposed to draw their own concept sketches. Obviously a lot of their drawings had nothing to do with that. I wonder what that thing Justin Bieber is holding.

Now, onto the clay and glass part of the museum! We've got some pretty hipster looking pieces here, and a failed attempt at a selfie.

Some of my favorite pieces.

Djikstra's algorithm in C on a bowl. I know nothing about this as I'm not the one studying computer science - but James thought it was cool and said he would eat out of it so I guess it's something noteworthy.

Some parts of the gift shop. I wish I could have taken one of those sheep home with me, but I I'd rather spend the $35+ on makeup and clothes instead.

On a different note: I never know how to end my posts, but I always thought the "until next post, Becky" was dumb even though it's a... somewhat nice way of closing the post. I think I'll drop it and just awkwardly and abruptly end my posts from now on. BYEEE

waterloo | coffee culture

coffee culture, our coffees!

smiles!

Coffee Culture was where James and I had our "first date" so of course I wanted to go back. I think it's very cute that they have outdoor seating and a coffee table surrounded with couches inside. And they give you ceramic mugs if you're staying, which makes it feel very homey! Even though it's a chain cafe, this one in Waterloo has a special place in my heart ♥

coffee culture - note the odd decision of the direction of my flatware

coffee culture - new york cheesecake with berry sauce

He likes his coffee black like his heart and soul, while I prefer mine more sweet and milky. I got a grilled cheese with salad, and he got some kind of other sandwich (turkey possibly?) with salad as well. We decided on cheesecake after our meal, and it was a lot bigger than it looks. I haven't had cheesecake in a long time, so it's a good excuse to enjoy it with someone I love!

Until next post,
Becky
